Marston Cycle Path flooding information

You may also find the current flag status of the river useful. This page tracks the level of the Isis at Friar's Wharf; Geraint Jones informs me that 15" to 20" above normal there seems to be a good match for a flooded path.

The Environment Agency has an automated level meter at the Southern end of Mesopotamia with two readings available: upstream and downstream. Once calibrated against the flooding of the path these should provide a useful warning mechanism.

Flooding between the bridges from Parson's Pleasure, very deep by the cattle grid causing several cyclists to fall off, water coming over the top of wellies! Came up another 6 inches in a matter of hours.

When making your decision on whether or not to lobby Councillor Rodney Rose, you may want to be aware of the following facts: \n \nThe route mentioned is a footpath (number 74), not a cycle track. There have been two public consultations and a public meeting related to the proposed lighting. \n \nThe objections from residents of Purcell Road were related strictly to the stretch that runs closely at the back of houses in that road, in places where the footpath is merely a couple of yards from the houses' windows. It was feared that the lighting would encourage use of the footpath late at night (particularly around pub closing time), thus increasing significantly the level of noise. Also, the increased level of lighting so close to the back of houses was considered intrusive, especially given that there was already lighting in place quite close to the fronts of the same houses. \n \nFor those footpath users who do not carry sufficient lighting, it might be sufficient to use the lit route in Purcell Road itself. The detour caused by using Purcell Road and Goodson Walk to get back to the Croft Road recreation Ground is of the order of seconds. \n \nIt is my understanding that the lighting work for the rest of the footpath was postponed for reasons which were not related to Purcell Road residents objecting to the plans. \n

Funding has been secured for paving and lighting the cycle track that runs from the end of Edgeway Road to the Croft Road recreation area. It was supposed to start this autumn but it has been postponed by the County Council member responsible - Rodney Rose (Conservative) - because a few people on Purcell Road have objected to there being lighting on it. We need to lobby him to get it done - please email him at: \nrodney.rose@oxfordshire.gov.uk

Possible wasps's nest near Ferry Lane cattle grid - a number of people have been, or have heard of others being, stung there recently. I'll report this to city council Monday a.m.

The water at the bottom of Ferry Road this morning was a sewer overflow, so you were cycling through raw sewage. If you don't appreciate that please let Thames Water know - http://customerhelp.thameswater.co.uk/app/ask.

An A-road walks into a bar and asks for a pint. The barman serves him, but he looks really tough and the barman worries that there'll be trouble.

Then a dual carriage way walks in and buys a pint. The barman again notes that he looks tough and says, ‘Look, I don't want any trouble, so could you sit in that corner away from the A-road?’ So the dual carriage way does.

Soon afterwards, in walks a motorway and gets a pint, who looks extremely tough, so the barman makes him sit in another corner away from the other two roads.

A bit later, a really small road walks in and buys a diet coke. The A-road, dual carriage way and motorway all look at him aghast and run out of the pub. The barman grabs the motorway on the way past and asks, ‘Why are you running out? He's a really tiny road.’

The motorway replies, ‘He's no road, he's a cycle path!’
