Marston Cycle Path flooding information

You may also find the current flag status of the river useful. This page tracks the level of the Isis at Friar's Wharf; Geraint Jones informs me that 15" to 20" above normal there seems to be a good match for a flooded path.

The Environment Agency has an automated level meter at the Southern end of Mesopotamia with two readings available: upstream and downstream. Once calibrated against the flooding of the path these should provide a useful warning mechanism.

The traditional festive closure of the cycle track through the University Parks will be on both Christmas Day and New Year’s Day 2022/3 (plus closure of the Parks and Mesopotamia to everyone on Christmas Eve). Here is the tweet from the University Parks confirming this: https://twitter.com/OxUniParks/status/1603049565040558080

The cycle track is open today with a strip of what looks like roofing felt along the middle part of the bridge. It is a work in progress so further closure should be anticipated

Anyone have a recent update on this? I risked it this morning cycling slowly and carefully at 6.30am but am reticent to do it at a busier time and would rather take the main roads if it's not cleared...

I have asked Oxford Direct Services to get them gritted ASAP (I'm a city councillor, and we own the company :-) ...)

If Cyclox are reading these messages, could they please reinforce their campaign to get cycle tracks and key footways cleared of snow/ice/leaf fall before roads,in support of active travel promises and targets?

Nothing about flooding, but few meters of the cycle path next to the Parsons' Pleasure until the two bridges, were very icy yesterday and I saw at least three cyclists falling down.

Does anyone have any knowledge of when the weak parapets on the bridge are due to be strengthened?

Nice manageable 1–2cm! No need for a bike/piggy back/wellies.

An A-road walks into a bar and asks for a pint. The barman serves him, but he looks really tough and the barman worries that there'll be trouble.

Then a dual carriage way walks in and buys a pint. The barman again notes that he looks tough and says, ‘Look, I don't want any trouble, so could you sit in that corner away from the A-road?’ So the dual carriage way does.

Soon afterwards, in walks a motorway and gets a pint, who looks extremely tough, so the barman makes him sit in another corner away from the other two roads.

A bit later, a really small road walks in and buys a diet coke. The A-road, dual carriage way and motorway all look at him aghast and run out of the pub. The barman grabs the motorway on the way past and asks, ‘Why are you running out? He's a really tiny road.’

The motorway replies, ‘He's no road, he's a cycle path!’
