Actually called 2001: A Space Odyssey.
An excellent tour-de-force as a film (directed by Stanley Kubrick), and a superb novel (by Sir Arthur C Clarke). The film had astonishingly good special effects for its time, and is a pleasure to watch from beginning to end.
Apparently there's an extra 30 minutes which were shown to test audiences but cut, all of which was irrelevant but designed by Kubrick to demonstrate just how achingly dull space travel actually was. So look forward to 2001: Redux, coming to a cinema near you soon....
