Anti Whovian

1: AntiWhovian: [n] Someone who dislikes people who like Doctor Who too much for anyone's good (correct if wrong)

2: AntiWhovian: [n] Someone who dislikes the frequent use of Doctor Who as a conversation starter by Whovians outside of a Who-related setting.

Would this be a less contentious definition of 'AntiWhovian' in the sense it's being used here? -- WJR

When used as the original definition of AntiWhovian [1], Alx Williams replied: I don't actually dislike Doctor Who. As has been pointed out, I am in fact a life member of OU Who, and though I have not been for some years, was more-or-less a regular in my first year. I consider Doctor Who to be one of the better Sci Fi TV series, if only because it was imaginative and varied. I'm less enamoured with the spinoffery, but even so I own the first 40 or so of the New Adventures and can't, off-hand, imagine purchasing books based on any other TV series.

If I have an AntiWhovian streak, it is in my acknowledgement that Doctor Who was patchy, kitschy and occasionally bloody awful (though, I reiterate, this is vastly preferable to (for example) Star Trek TNG's bland sameness), my unwillingness to accept it is a Universally Improving Ingredient to any given conversation, and my lack of scruples in voicing these opinions. On occasion I may have come across as rather more vehement than this description would imply, but this was probably only in my desire to counterbalance the more rabidly Whovian elements of the society. If that makes me an AntiWhovian, then so be it. - AW
