An award given for the best British SF novel in a given year. It was established in 1987 by Arthur C Clarke, and is judged by a panel five judges (two from the British Science Fiction Association, two from the Science Fiction Foundation, and one, curiously, from the Science Museum).

The value of the prize purse has the same numerical value as the year, hence the first prize given was for 1987 UKP; one wonders what will happen if the UK joins the Euro - perhaps the Jewish year will be used instead?
