Top British SF author, whose best works (written in the late-1960s and 1970s) were well ahead of their time, dealing with over-population, environmental collapse and the onslaught of the information age. His books tend towards the depressing end of the spectrum, yet somehow, despite that, his 'Stand on Zanzibar', clocking in at almost 800 pages of, at times, painfully over-written dystopia, never really drags and therefore disprove's Comrade Mike's argument that all long SF novels are crap. Maybe he should refine his argument to state that writers who always write long SF novels are crap.
