American author of Fantasy Fiction for children and teenagers. His five-volume Chronicles of Prydain, based on the Welsh Mabinogion, was published between 1964 and 1968; it received both a Newbery Honor Medal (for The Black Cauldron) and a Newbery Medal (for The High King). He has won every award it is possible for a children's author to win. One of the greats.
