Panic Set List 8TT03

This is Niall and Tom's working set list for PANIC of 8th week, Trinity term 2003. Unless you are Niall or Tom, or someone interested in mocking their musical taste or DJing talents, you should ignore this.

A couple of years later, Niall and Tom decided to digivolve this into The Real Ultimate Panic Mix. Awsoma powa!

We've got the 00:30 slot; 00:00 is the climactic dancing slot, so 00:30 is the slot when people might start leaving (but probably won't). Therefore, it really demands a classic Panic set to keep people on the dancefloor.

A + denotes that we may not actually have a copy of this of our own. Let's bold up anything which we definitely agree on (as in 'we'll use it if we can', not 'it's definitely in').

Agreed songs:

Are you sure that's the Idlewild you want?

Yes. Second choice (if they play 'Little Discourage' earlier) would actually be 'A Modern Way Of Letting Go'. Mind you, although it's ace and has been a single, it might not be well-known enough at Panic. -- NH

And what about 'Screamager'?

I couldn't tell you what it sounds like I mean, I'm sure I've heard it, but not associated it with the name. -- NH

Screw that! Forget about that! I don't want to know about anything like that! ... I've got nothing to do, except hang about and get screwed up on you ... etc.

Draft set:

Exactly how long is Aisha? I want to play it, but if it's a choice between that and three really good indie tracks, i'm not sure i want it enough. It's a tough one. -- TA

Six minutes, so it's a choice between Aisha and two really good indie tracks. I think I'd still go for Aisha. -- NH

(Assuming we're going with Aisha ...) You seem to be saying that Perseverance should go near the start of the set. Is that right? My memory of it is that it's a bit more melodic and less noisy than the other stuff we're going to play. If that's the case, i'd suggest we play it either right before Aisha or before one other track that's intermediate between the two (and you know what i'm going to suggest here - begins with 'E' and ends in 'urodisco'). -- TA

Works for me. Of course, if we wanted to go the full indie-dance route we could add in The People as well. But that's five minutes, so probably we don't want to do that. -- NH

It might be the way to a catastrophic prog-indie/electro/dance nightmare. OTOH, it might just work ... -- TA

...due to tracks played by the guy on before us. Oh, well. -- NH

Note: By supplying the abovementioned Helen Love single, Alx Williams has been hereby declared God Emperor Of Tunes.

If they'd had 'Debaser' in the bin, we would have put it in, ooh, probably right after 'Screamager', and not had Helen Love. -- TA

Can you burn a CD of this for me? -- SDN

Probably. It would take some organising, as the CDs are owned by three different people. Also, it's only half an hour. One thing i have been thinking about is making a full CD-length super-set, which would not only be a good CD to have (party in a can!), but would be a useful resource for future sets. This would take a bit more doing, as we'd need to source some Pixies, Nirvana, Green Day, more Idlewild, etc. However, once that was done, burning you one would be easy. Getting it to you might be more of a problem! You might have to wait for one of us to make a run across the sea. -- TA

That would be awesome. By the way, I do travel and have a friend who lives in Oxford, so maybe within the year ... -- SDN

Sorry, attack of the collision detector: I will be heading New York-wards over the vacation, so if someone can email me when the CD's ready, I can give a contact address to snailmail it to, and bring it with me. Or something. --TL

Oh, great! I'll buy you a drink. -- SDN
