Pub Med

Though it sounds like a rather bad theme pub, Pub Med is a huge bibliographic database of scientific papers in the fields of biology and medicine. It is of immense value to the working life scientist.

Pub Med is run by the US government, through a tortuous chain of agencies and institutions.

It actually includes a few papers from non-biomedical fields; they index the total contents of any journal with biomedical content, so all the physics etc stuff from Nature and PNAS is in there, too.

Pub Med's normal search interface uses HTTP POST, but you can do it with GET, by forming the right URL: <http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query/static/linking.html>.
