Shorthand for Science Fiction. Often used in a vaguely derogatory sense, as in ' Star Trek is pure Sci-Fi', and implying that whatever it is is not proper SF; in this sense, it is often pronounced (or even written) 'skiffy'.
One school of thought is that the SF/Sci Fi divide is really the Hard SF/Soft SF divide. Perhaps this would be easier to decide if we had good definitions of Hard SF and Soft SF.
Examples of good Sci Fi (which aren't necessarily good SF) include:
