Slash Fiction

A variety of Fan Fiction involving love between two same-sex characters; these are usually male, there being very little lesbian slash. Slash is commonly thought to have originated with fanfiction about Kirk and Spock from Star Trek; the same-sex stories were called 'Kirk/Spock' - thus, slash.

Note that 'love' primarily means romance (although there may be some sex). It would be a mistake to think that slash is some kind of geeky gay porn; most Slash Fic is written (and read) by straight single women.

There is a slash-writing woman (although married) in Geoff Ryman's Two Five Three: her specialty is slash about the TV series Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea (<http://www.ryman-novel.com/car3/107.htm>).
