Stands for Three Letter Acronym. (or, less commonly, Two Letter Acronym, Ten Letter Acronym?, and, by extension, about 20% of all possible acronym lengths.) Also spawned the idea of an ETLA or Extended Three Letter Acronym for those that you can't reach with a "t".
