Twic I Bugs
Report bugs in Twic I here. Include as much information as you can. They will be dealt with as soon as is possible.
- The URL recogniser recognises things like BSD::Resource, which are perl package names, rather than URLs. This is probably inevitable and not worth fixing.
- There is absolutely bugger all documentation - inside or outside the code - about how to install Twic I. Workaround: be Tom Anderson. Actual solution: Twic I Admin Howto.
- I tried Backlinks on Category Wiki and encountered an Internal Server Error. Tried it again and it was fine. I've been getting those fairly constantly for almost a week- long enough for a Zool V in joke, anyway, but assumed they'd been deliberately taken off-line while implementation was worked on.
- Yoikes. I haven't seen that, but i'll look into it - the server logs should supply an accurate diagnosis. -- TA
- Update: actually, the logs are most unenlightening: [Thu Feb 20 13:49:46 2003] [error] [client 64.68.82.46] Premature end of script headers: /srv/www/urchin.earth.li/cgi-bin/twic/wiki/backlinks.pl is all it says, which means (here comes the science bit ...) that the script didn't go out via die(), or else it would have left a message. This is bad; it's a completely unexpected failure mode.
- I think i might know what this might be. After Exploding Wiki Day, i put in a limit on the time a request - any request - had to run. It might be that the Back Links search was so slow that it hit the limit and was stopped; that would certainly generate the failure mode seen here. I will add some debugging code to see if this is the problem.
- The solution, of course, is to finish the fabled new Back Links Implementation.
- You can't use a URL in the tag of a tagged Wiki List; the colon gets recognised as the end of the tag. There is no workaround. The solution would involve breaking up the item string based on tokens rather than characters, but this would require reworking of the Formatting Implementation. It's not too difficult, though.
- From the logs (note that all of this happened on the morning of 20/2/2003) ...
- There are a few like this: [Wed Feb 19 00:53:14 2003] [error] [client 205.188.208.139] script not found or unable to stat: /srv/www/urchin.earth.li/cgi-bin/twic/wiki/view.pl?page=CS Lewis; this is weird, because view.pl definitely exists.
- Local Changes reports pages which don't exist!
- The Sand Box seems to have a bug: the entire lower half of it, from the Rawtext experiments downwards, is apparently lost, and what is more the bottom line of it containing amongst other things the 'Edit' link seems to have vanished with it. What's going on? --TL (2/03/2003)
- A bug. The bug only manifested when raw blocks were misused, so i didn't catch it when i tested it! Fixed now. The instructions on Wiki Raw Text has been updated.
- A piece of source text with the format \n\n:foobar stops the rest of the page from displaying. Not certain if this should be regarded as a bug, given that it's not how colons should be used, but it seems to fail more spectacularly than I'd expect. -- AM
- Twic I's general method for handling errors of any kind is to give up; the Perl Language in which it is written doesn't have any real facility for exception handling etc, so doing sensible things with errors is actually rather hard. The workaround is to avoid erroneous constructs; the solution is part of the Great Twic I Rewrite.
