Waterstones Manchester Deansgate

This is one of the Manchester branches of leading book retailers Waterstones, located on Deansgate in Manchester city centre.

This Waterstones store has a very well stocked science fiction and fantasy section, which tends to include things like interesting American imports and recent issues of short fiction magazines. It is one of the best places to buy science fiction and fantasy literature in Manchester. They also run regular author talks and signings.

Waterstones Manchester Deansgate has for a long time produced its own free SF magazine, containing news, reviews and features. Originally, this magazine was The Alien Has Landed, until Ariel, the editor, left Waterstones and moved his publication online, becoming The Alien Online. Before he left, Ariel was also responsible for producing two issues of Alien Landings, a short fiction magazine showcasing local writing talent. The current fanzine produced by Waterstones Manchester Deansgate is called Enigma, and feels slightly more commercial in tone than its predecessor.

SF author Jeff Noon used to work in this store. After he became successful at writing he made a few guest appearances at Waterstones Manchester Deansgate to give readings, talks and signings.
