Team Gila Monsters welcomes charitable donations in support of SOS Children and is also in need of financial sponsorship to help with some of the costs incurred during the challenge.
So that you can choose exactly how much of your money is spent where, and to maintain complete transparency, we have two separate donation funds. One will go entirely to our chosen Charity, SOS Children, and the other will go towards equipment and fuel for the car, which will increase its chances of fetching a good price at auction in Gambia.
Please consider donating a fixed amount to charity, giving a penny for every mile we cover on the road to Banjul, or funding a certain number of miles of fuel.
Help SOS Children
Team Gila Monsters is aiming to raise £3000 for SOS Children. SOS Children are currently working on providing food, medicine and practical help for 48,000 African children orphaned by the African AIDS epidemic. They are the UK arm of world's largest orphan and abandoned children charity and are doing great work all around the world. You can read more about them on our Charities Page or at their homepage
Please donate towards this immeasurably worthwhile cause by clicking below

Not a penny of the money you donate through justgiving will go towards the team. 128% (Yes, really*) of what you donate goes to SOS Children, so you know exactly where your money is going.
Help us reach Banjul - Donate Cash!
Unfortunately none of the Gambian charitable organisations described on the Charities page will receive a penny if the Gila Monsters' car fails to reach Banjul as there will be nothing to auction off! Whats more, the many people sponsoring us by the mile donate less! Help us to get there and to raise extra cash by donating vehicle equipment and accessories (which will be auctioned off along with the car) or helping with the fuel bill! Petrol prices vary substantialy from country to country but total estimated fuel cost is approximately £300 ($520), i.e. 8p (14c) per mile.
All money donated in this way will go towards things that increase the chances of our bringing a Renault 5 across the Sahara desert, including equipment and fuel. Specifically, these donations will NOT be used towards personal costs such as accomodation or food, neither will they go toward the purchase of the car, our visas, our entry fees, or our insurance.
Help us reach Banjul - Donate Equipment!
We need equipment like sand ladders for escaping soft sand, Jerry Cans for fuel, A roof rack to carry these on, as well as many minor items like tow-ropes, water containers, and steel for sump and fuel tank guards. If you can help by donating any of these items, or in any other way, please let us know at gmonsters@gmonsters.com!
We are also looking for the time of an experienced welder to help us fit the steel sheets to the car, and a garage or tyre dealer to donate tyres. In return we will offer advertising space both on the car and on the web, as well as our gratitude and perhaps a beer or too!
Advertising
The entire surface of our car will be available for advertising to companies who wish to support us on the challenge. The PBC always receives substantial coverage in the local and national press and on BBC News. Team Gila-Monster also expects local coverage within Oxford, including town and student papers, as well as coverage within the sofware engineering and high-energy physics community with which we are associated.
Corporate sponsors donating significant sums of money or work will receive advertising space on this website, as well as a large logo on the car, bringing the possibility of local and national attention. Visit the Publicity page for examples of how the challenge has been reported in recent years. If you would like to add the logo of your company, product or service to the car please contact us. Companies kind enough to sponsor us will also have their logos dislayed here along with a link to their web sites.
