The Biochemistry Viva Voce Page

"Vivas in Part I might be held for a number of reasons, e.g. very poor performance, uneven performance, investigation of the effect of medical problems on performance, wish of external examiner to confirm the standards revealed by the written paper."

- Oxford University Biochemistry Department.

"I must get myself into the right frame of mind for this", muttered Zaphod.

"There is no right frame of mind," said Gargravarr sternly.

"You really know how to make a guy feel inadequate."

"I don't. The Total Perspective Vortex does."

- 'The Restaurant At The End Of The Universe', Douglas Adams

Having had to go through a viva voce examination at the end of my part I examinations (sat in june of 2001), I've come to the conclusion that the single most intimidating thing about it was not knowing what to expect. Hence, this web page, where I record my thoughts on the whole affair. One day, there might be other people's stories here, as well, which would be good, since (obviously) no two vivas will be alike. For now, there's just mine.
