Mutant Enemy Television: Angel

Angel is a TV show that was spun off from Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 1999, and in my opinion is now consistently better than its parent. It chronicles the adventures of Angel, the vampire with a soul, and his friends in LA. A good introductory website is The City Of Angel. I also regularly post to the newsgroup uk.media.tv.angel, which will one day have a website here. Anyway, I have several pages here relating to Angel in one way or another:

  • For those who may be interested, the Short Reviews of Angel episodes that I post to uk.media.tv.angel are available (written in one hour (ish) with a limit of seven hundred words (ish)), together with some other bits of analysis and discussion.

  • There's an archive of Tim Minear's posts to umta. Tim Minear is an executive producer on the show, and responsible for writing a substantial proportion of the best episodes.

  • Tafka, one of the other posters on umta, runs polls rating new episodes out of five. A table of all episodes aired so far on terrestrial television is here, and for all episodes aired in the UK, whether on terrestrial or satellite TV, is here. The results can also be viewed separated by season: S1, S2, and S3.

  • Out of curiosity, when S6 aired on Sky I started running five-star polls on uk.media.tv.buffy-v-slayer. The results for S6 are here, for S2 (which is currently airing on BBC2) are here, or for S4 (which has just been released on DVD) are here. All the Buffy results in one table are here.

  • A comparative table for the 2001-02 season (Angel S3 and Buffy S6) can be found here, or all the poll results for both shows in one big table is here. A comparison of the sweeps scores of various seasons is here. And last but not least, an external link: The results of Gavin Clayton's definitive episode poll.

  • One of the other games on the newsgroup, although one which has been dormant for a while now, is to suggest alternative episode titles for Angel episodes.

  • Last but not least, a project I might get around to completing at some point is the attempt to list all the various flashbacks that Angel has shown in some kind of chronological order.
