An Angel Timeline

The plan for this page is that I'll build up a definitive timeline for Angel's history, putting all the information from flashbacks in as they are shown on terrestrial TV.

Note that the WB have put up their own history of Angel. See also this slightly more tongue-in-cheek timeline.

  • 1753: Galway, Ireland. Angel is human, the son of a reasonably wealthy merchant (although with just the one servant), and we learn that his original name is Liam. He's not a particularly impressive or noble man; in fact, to put it bluntly, he appears to be a drunkard. His father is ashamed of him, leading to a vicious circle of blame and unpleasantness between the two of them. One night, whilst out carousing he catches the fancy of the vampire Darla; she later sires him in an alleyway, telling him 'Close your eyes' before doing so. After a funeral - at which Angel's father does not cry - we see him rise as a vampire, to be greeted by Darla. His first kill is a man who encounters him shortly after he rises, watched over by Darla. He then decides he's going to lay waste to the village, killing everyone in it - including his family. His sister thinks Liam has returned to her as an Angel, and doesn't hesitate to invite him in, whereupon he kills everyone in the house. Darla points out that his victory took but moments, but that his father's victory will haunt him for lifetimes (from BS2-21 and BS2-22, 'Becoming', and AS1-15, 'The Prodigal').

  • 1786: Angelus sires Penn, a puritan who goes on to relive his first nights as a vampire - during which he kills his family - over and over again, enacting the kills as serial murders. He kills in LA in 1929, 1963 and 1999, and he may have been in Boston in 1908. Angel stops Penn's spree in 1999 (from AS1-11, 'Somnambulist').

  • 1898: Borsa, Romania. Darla blindfolds Angelus and leads him into their house, where she reveals his birthday present - a young gypsy girl, tied up and lying on the floor. She tells him the present is for both of them, as she intends to watch as he feeds. Angelus kneels on the floor and bites the girl's inner thigh. Some time later, Darla returns home to find Angelus cowering in a corner, babbling about his victims. Darla initially thinks he's playing a game, but quickly realises something is wrong, and accuses him of seeing someone else. Angel goes to her for comfort, but she pushes him away, demanding to know what's going on. Angel tells her the gypsy girl's people did something to him, and that he can remember every single person he's killed. He begs Darla for help but Darla, having realised the gypsies have restored Angel's soul, drives Angel out onto the street in disgust.

Angel roams the streets of Borsa, coming across a group of well-dressed people - three men and a woman. He tells them he's hungry, and one of the gentlemen tosses him a coin; Angel refuses it and vamps out. The men drag him into an alley, but Angel fights them off and grabs the woman, pulling her into the alley to feed. He can't bring himself to go through with it, however, and he stumbles from the alley, leaving the woman scared, but alive. (from AS1-18, 'Five By Five').
