Interframe encoding
- In most video many frames will be similar to the frames which preceed them
- In order to increase compression the similarities between each frame should not be duplicated
- MPEG uses block based motion prediction - ie. assume blocks will move between adjacent frames without changing significantly
- Typically only 1 frame in a sequence of 8 is intraframe encoded (ie. like a JPEG), the rest are extrapolated
