just lifted from orbital line notes ... It would be good if there was proper interchange between Brondesbury NR and Kilburn tube. A stop should be added to the Metropolitan Line at West Hampstead; the stop at Finchley Road could be removed. West Hampstead should be rebuilt to provide proper interchange, including West Hampstead Thameslink, as is being planned. It would be good if there was proper interchange at Finchley Road (connecting the Finchley Road & Frognal NR station and Finchley Road tube station) A new NR station should be built at Tufnell Park; this would be on Junction Rd or Station Rd, with interchange to the Tufnell Park tube station. ... A new NR station at Belsize Park, please. With the further modified NLL/Orbital route suggested elsewhere, this interconnects the NLL/Orbital and the Northern Edgware. Interchange between Upper Holloway NR station and Archway tube station would be nice, if impractical. There ought to be interchange with the East London Line somewhere in Dalston. If not, Canonbury will do it. ... Dalston Kingsland and Dalston Junction should not be separate. They should be closed, with a new station built at or immediately beyond the junction of the ELL and NLL (which i think is a bit to the west of Dalston Kingsland). This should probably just be called Dalston. Hackney Downs and Hackney Central stations should be closed, and a new, unified, Hackney station opened at the junction, opening onto Graham Road. Alternatively, NLL platforms could be added (restored?) at Hackney Downs. (Incidentally, the Metropolitan Line should be extended beyond Liverpool Street to run along the West Anglia Line; this would be referred to as the Transmetropolitan Line.) Canning Town should have proper interchange between NR and DLR, if it doesn't already. Westcombe Park should gain a second pair of platforms on the north-south line running from Blackheath to the works. The whole station may have to move a few hundred metres east to do this. The East London Line should be extended to Lewisham, if it hasn't been already. Brockley should gain a second pair of platforms on the east-west line running from Lewisham to Nunhead. The whole station may have to move a few hundred metres north to do this. Loughborough Junction should gain a second pair of platforms on the east-west line running from Denmark Hill to Brixton. It might be useful to reroute this line (or some services on it) via a new curve between the Denmark Hill - Elephant & Castle line and the Elephant & Castle - Brixton line, as this would bring it closer to the existing station. Brixton should gain (or reopen) a pair of platforms on the east-west line running from Denmark Hill to Clapham High Street. Note that this is not necessary if services are subtly rerouted via the possible new curve at Loughborough Junction. Clapham High Street and Clapham North should be properly merged. Queenstown Road could gain a pair of platforms on the line from Wandsworth Road to Clapham Junction. Putney and East Putney stations should merge, forming a new station on Grand Parade. Incidentally: the Richmond branch of the District Line should be extended along the national rail line to Hampton Wick (or Hampton); the Wimbledon branch of the District Line should be extended to Hampton Court; the Northern Line should continue from Morden to Morden South, then along the national rail line via Sutton and West Croydon to East Croydon (or, less loopily, from Sutton to Cheam or Belmont); the Victoria Line should be extended from Brixton along the national rail line to Herne Hill, and probably further. While we're at it, the Bakerloo and Victoria lines could do better as well. A new station, Ealing Junction (or East Ealing, or even North Ealing), should be built where the District/Piccadilly Line crosses the Great Western/Central Line east of Ealing Broadway station. This would be on the bend in Inglis Road, ~100 m off Hanger Lane. It should have platforms on both lines (the platform on the District/Piccadilly line being well south of the crossing), and thus become a stop on the Great Western, Central, District and Piccadilly lines; it will become the major suburban interchange for the Great Western. The existence of this station would reduce the utility of some nearby stations: North Ealing becomes redundant, and should close; West Acton becomes less useful, and should either close or move further away, to the Alliance Road bridge (where it is equidistant between Ealing Junction and North Acton, and is better placed to serve the Kendal/Concord complex); Ealing Common becomes less useful, but should probably remain open. Incidentally, the Central Line should be extended along the Great Western Line as far as West Drayton. The zone 2 boundary must be altered to bring the entire Orbital Line inside it (or at least to its boundary). This involves changing the zone of the following stations, all of which are currently in zone 3: Willesden Junction, Hampstead Heath, Crouch Hill; Stratford, West Ham, Canning Town; Westcombe Park, Blackheath; Barnes, Barnes Bridge, Chiswick, Gunnersbury, Acton Town, Ealing Common, Ealing Junction, Acton Main Line. Incidentally, Tower Hill, Tower Gateway and Fenchurch Street stations should be merged; the resulting stations should probably be called Tower. No, Fenchurch Street. Incidentally, Embankment and Charing Cross stations should be merged; the resulting station should probably be called Charing Cross. Incidentally, it's not okay to have different stations with the same name; present offenders include Shepherd's Bush (Central + H+C), Edgware Road (Circle/H+C/District + Bakerloo) and, to some extent, Paddington (Circle/District + H+C + Bakerloo). And Bethnal Green. Incidentally, Aldgate and Aldgate East stations should be merged - a short tunnel would do the job. Incidentally, Euston should be on the Circle/H+C/Metropolitan line; either by merging it with Euston Square via a short tunnel, or adding new platforms (and then probably closing Euston Square). And Warren Street and Regents Park should do the same (closing Great Portland Street too). And Marylebone. And the two Edgware Roads should be properly connected. AND MORE STUF fix up the GOBLin crossings of the WA. following the GOBLin from the FP junction east: Harringay Green Lanes ADD Seven Sisters DELETE South Tottenham ADD Tottenham Hale Blackhorse Road EXTEND Walthamstow Queens Road (is on GOBLin, add plats for WA) (DELETE Walthamstow Central from WA ha ha ha) then farting around in E7 New Central Line platforms at City Thameslink.
