Once every decade or so, the WorldCon is held outside North America (pause for irony). In 2005, it's in Glasgow, UK, under the name of Interaction. It will run from 4-8 August. - http://www.interaction.worldcon.org.uk/ -- http://www.interaction.worldcon.org.uk/whatis.htm -- http://www.interaction.worldcon.org.uk/faq.htm Now, since it's in 2005, the programme isn't exactly finalised yet, but ChristopherPriest is there as G__o__H, and StephenBaxter, DavidBrin, JoeHaldeman, BenJeapes, IanWatson and a bunch of others are known to be going. Membership started at 75 UKP, but after EasterCon2003, went up to 85 UKP; another hike will be along in a while. However, if you buy supporting membership, then the price to upgrade to attending membership is frozen at whatever it was when you bought it. Now, 75+ UKP, with travel and accomodation come on top, is quite a bit of money, but think about what it is: it's the *world* SF convention, of which there won't be another in the UK for a long time. Compare that to EasterCon2003 (aka SeaCon), which was only a UK con, and which cost 45 UKP. _It's probably worth pointing out here that next year's EasterCon will allow or students; IIRC, that means 25 UKP for a ticket. But don't quote me._ At PicoCon2003, various people expressed an interest in going, or at least in thinking about it. Some have since done something about it; the following people are amongst those listed as attending in the database (): - TomAnderson - NiallHarrison - GenevaMelzack - RuthOReilly - IanSnell CategoryConvention
