Karel Capek

Inter-war Czech writer, mainly famous in SF circles for his play 'RUR', in which he coined the term 'robot'. His other notable SFnal works include War With The Newts and The Insect Play (which is not really SF, but is very good, and can often be found in the same volume as RUR). He is known more widely as the leading inter-war Czech writer, biographer of Tomas Masaryk and victim of Nazism following the German invasion of 1938.
