American author of Fantasy Fiction, best known for Tam Lin, a retelling of the ballad set at Carleton College (in Minnesota) in the early 1970s. Part of The Scribblies, a Minneapolis-based writers group that also included Emma Bull, Will Shetterly, Patricia Wrede, and Kara Dalkey.
Dean's work is mandarin, full of allusions, and far from easy going, but it's worth it.
