TCP

TCP is the Transmission Control Protocol, one of the fundamental transport protcols underlying the internet. Practically all the application protocols - HTTP, FTP, and the mail protocols (SMTP?, POP? and IMAP?) are built on top of TCP. The DNS? protocol is the only commonly-used application protocol that is not; instead, it uses UDP?.

TCP (and UDP?) is itself built on top of IP, the Internet Protocol.
